Challenge
The cruise ship M/S AIDA DIVA needed a vacuumed ventilation duct repaired while at berth, with 2,600 passengers and 600 crew, a total of roughly 3,200 people, asleep on board. Cruise ship maintenance work runs on a different clock than commercial cargo repair: there is no cargo hold to isolate and no crew-only zone to work in, every deck is occupied living space, and disruptive work has to be scheduled around passenger sleep and the ship's own turnaround timetable in port. The duct in question had lost most of its airflow capacity, and postponing the fix to the next dry dock was not an acceptable option for a vessel returning to service the same day.
Approach
YEKE's repair team planned the job to fit inside a single midnight to early morning window, when the ship's public spaces and cabins were quiet and access routes could be used without disturbing anyone aboard. The duct repair itself was carried out in silence, meaning no equipment or method that would carry noise or vibration through the ship's structure while passengers slept, a constraint that shaped both the tools used and the sequence of work.
Outcome
Ventilation capacity was raised from 30% to 70% within a single 5-hour working period, completed before the ship's passengers woke and before her next scheduled departure. The job is one of YEKE's standing examples of repair work executed to a live-vessel, live-passenger constraint rather than a standard yard timetable.
